Casa dei Bambini Day Nursery

Casa dei Bambini is a Montessori Day Nursery in the heart of Winchester.  We care for children aged six months to five years on a full day, all year round basis.

The children arrive between 8 am and 9 am and have a healthy breakfast with us.  Preparation then begins for the work cycles where the children undertake their Montessori work and activities.  We place emphasis on daily living activities, working on the children's skills for life.  At a young age they are shown activities for independence and how to respond in a social environment.  We follow a balanced curriculum that is structured but allows each individual child to develop gently at their own pace, fostering a love of learning.

  • Flexible drop off between 8 am and 9 am
  • Full day session - 8 am to 6 pm
  • Morning and afternoon sessions - 8 am to 1 pm and 1 pm to 6 pm - limited availability
  • Term time only places for children in receipt of the Nursery Education Grant - 8 am to 4 pm
  • Flexible pick up between 5 pm and 6 pm

We pride ourselves in good home-cooking using high quality ingredients. We have been rated as 'Excellent' in the Hampshire Food Authorities 'Safe2Eat' scheme.

Bebe Room

Children in this room are aged from six months to approximately 18 months.  The nursery nurses gently guide them and scaffold their learning to offer new and exciting experiences.  The babies undertake treasure basket play, messy play in the kitchen surrounded by the wonderful aroma of home cooking, with social times fostering and supporting early language development.  Sensory play develops the babies awareness of the world around them.  They also do lots of physical play and love to go outside in the garden and for walks.

Piccolino Room

The Piccolino children are approximately aged between 18 months and 2 years 9 months.  In this room, the Piccolinos undertake a variety of different activities that aid their natural development.  The activities are real and have a purpose, for example, scrubbing potatoes, pouring and washing up.  The staff move among the children encouraging them to undertake their individual activities and also small group activities such as messy play, painting, water and sand play.  Socialisation is a strong emphasis in this environment, with the children learning to share and to work together co-operatively.

Bambino Room

The Montessori curriculum for children rising 3 years to 5 years is well balanced and focuses on the individual child and the start of their learning journey.  Each curriculum area is presented one-to-one and through small group work.

The Montessori Teachers observe and record the children's achievements in their Individual Learning Journey folders.  These achievements are fed back to parents at Parent Evenings.

The Montessori Curriculum is linked across to the Early Years Foundation Stage preparing the children well with a solid basis for later learning and life.  The children learn in a concrete way and establish concepts through using specific Montessori apparatus.
